I vote for the top picture with the darker clouds framing the top and serving as the background for the bare trees. The look of the intricate branching patterns against the darker sky is beautiful.
I can't decide myself. They're both pretty ominous. They were taken less than a minute apart. Facing the sun pictures come out darker than the day really was.

I'm tending toward the top one. The lower horizon makes the troubled sky more prominent and therefore dramatic.
