I surfaced at ...

While driving around the other day I discovered New Suffolk,
a little boating enclave on the south shore of the North Fork.
The water is the Great Peconic Bay that lies between
the North and South Forks of Long Island
It turned out to be a place of historic interest
though barren of human activity in late February
One staghorn sumac soldier stands on guard duty.

What is going on here?

I was driving in Wading River this afternoon when several police cars went screaming past. I soon saw where they were heading. Could this be the immediate aftermath of a bank robbery? This'll make me watch the TV News.
UPDATE 2/17/12 -- Yes, it was a bank robbery. Happened about 20 minutes before I went past.
Another bank was robbed in E. Setauket, near here, the day before that. Dangerous times!
