Sheep unshorn

The shearing that was scheduled for yesteday had to be put off as their wool was still wet from all the rain we've been having. People came anyway, many little people, and were encouraged to feed the sheep, the horse and one goat. It was a happy scene.

Yep, they do need haircuts.

"The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence"

Feed me, too, please!

The lambs are getting big

Well, anyway we can go look in the barn with all that interesting stuff.

Bye horse, we're going to the barn.

Ooh, what a neat place!

Look, Daddy ...

... that goat is really fat!

The pen is where the shearing will take place next Saturday (weather permitting). Stay tuned.

Horse show at Old Field Farm

On May 10th I stopped in at the PHA horse show going on at Old Field Farm. I always enjoy looking at the horses and it couldn't be more convenient--just steps away from West Meadow Beach whither my car heads automatically on a weekend. The number of participants seemed on the sparse side but what do I know? I took some shots of a junior class getting ready to go into the ring. Oh boy, there will be 5 more shows this summer, and they're free.

We can all be proud of Suffolk County for saving and restoring these show grounds.

St. Cuthbert's, Selden

St. Cuthbert's Episcopal Church is on Magnolia Place in Selden, which is south of South Setauket. It is on a street that is one of the poorest in the area, with a feeling of Tobacco Road, just one block from a busy highway, Middle Country Road (Route 25). The traditional Blessing of the Animals has been given a realistic updating. The sign announces a Blessing of the Cars. Makes sense to me. First things first.

Leapin' Lizard

Well I never!! This gyrating creature wants me to go into the Verizon store. But I'm not going to. I'm going into the grocery store to get some..... (rhymes with Nice Dream).

First I'll take some pix of this funny chap even though it's beginning to rain (again)

Good thing I took the pix when I did. When I came out of the store with my ....... he was nothing but a crumpled red pile on the pavement. I didn't even get a shot of that as the guy quickly stuffed him into the tin and dragged the apparatus into the store.

The P. T. Barnum

What are those men on the lift doing to the old ferry?

Oh, they're painting her. That'll take a while even with rollers!

Setauket Presbyterian Church

Located on the Green in Setauket, across from the Library and the Caroline Church, the Setauket Presbyterian Church has a history that goes back to the Seventeenth Century, yet today, dressed up in pink dogwood blossoms, it looks fresh and new. The present building was constructed in 1812.

New President for the University

Dr. Samuel Stanley has been named the new president of Stony Brook University. He takes office July 1st. Very impressive CV. Seems quite down to earth and with a lovely family, too.
