Hurricane Sandy.
Beyond description. Or, if you insist, look at what the media are showing.
There was so much destruction that after the first day I couldn't take any more pictures.
Six days and nights without power, cold and black nights, sawed up logs by the road side, gas lines ....

How is your house??? We lost power one day at work and not at all at home, except for one hour. I hope you are OK!
Thanks, K. No house damage in this neighborhood but lots of trees down everywhere you went. No flooding here. Our power went off Monday afternoon and was restored Sunday afternoon, almost 6 days later. Missed my computer and TV and hot food! Some people at work yesterday were still out, also some students. Not a pleasant week. I managed to fill up with gas on Mon, only waiting 48 minutes in line. Adding to all the worry -- my brother had coronary surgery in MN (quadruple bypass) and it was hard to get the cell phone charged to keep in touch.
In 1985 with Hurricane Gloria power was out for eleven days, but I was working in Jamaica then and they had power so it wasn't so bad.
Now another storm is coming, just what we don't need!
Phew,I'm glad you didn't have any damage, the power part stinks but at least you don't have a damaged house. I heard the gas lines were terrible, Wow!! we didn't have that but before the storm every one was scurrying around getting gas and groceries. We have a generator so we can have lights and the microwave and showers. My internet does not work when the power is out because the thing is upstairs, I should move that one of these days...
Here comes the snow!!!! are you ready for that!?!?
I've been thinking about you ever since Sandy started approaching your area. I'm so glad to find out that while you were without power for days, you managed to survive without too much difficulty. What a mess!!
After all the years of living along the Gulf Coast, hurricanes are an unfortunate part of life here. Several have impacted me, causing 7-10 days of very primitive living but with the storms occuring in the summer, I never had to contend with winter-type survival temps!
I hope that the 2nd storm didn't cause any more problems for you.
With the population density in the northeast corridor, the damages your area suffered were incredible to deal with. I hope life gets back to normal for you soon!!
P.S. quadruple bypass!!!! Jumping Jimminy!! I don't know whether it was Dick or George, but I sure hope and pray that the surgery went well and your brother is feeling better!! Please pass on my best wishes to him .....
Thanks, Biddie. It was quite a storm. I missed all the TV coverage for the first 6 days, being without power, and that's OK because the NJ disaster was hard to look at. Around here the gas lines are gone. Then a short blizzard on Wed./Thurs. brought snow that melted soon.
George is doing well but it's a long slow recovery for that operation. His daughters have been staying with him in relays.
