Water main break in Old Stony Brook

As I arrived at the post office at 2:30 it was obvious something was going on. Street blocked off, many pieces of fire equipment, fire marshall, water authority vehicles, huge hole--what is going on?

Ah, water main break at the little Shell station. All that gasoline stored underground...

Precautions taken

Oh, what a mess

I looked across the street and saw the harbor almost dried up! Who pulled the plug? Must be a coincidence.

Back to my first vantage point. Looks like things are under control.
Good work, guys

Well! We've had our excitement for the day.
(p.s. I wasn't the only one taking pictures)
UPDATE Wed. 6/3 Here's the story

Good Morning - you are a newspaper reporter at heart! What a major response by so many groups to attend to the problem.

With growing shortages, loss of good water is a serious problem these days. Sure glad that none of the gas tanks were affected.

Curiously the blue color of those vehicles is interesting - sure reduces theft since a bright blue vehicle is easy to spot.

Enjoyed your comment about the harbor! Glad it wasn't contaminated by any leaking gasoline.

It's not known (by me) whether any of those things you're glad of are true!

Blue trucks are Suffolk County Water Authority. Red vehicles of course are fire dept.

And chances are the yellow digging equipment also belongs to the Suffolk County Water Authority.

Red, Blue and Yellow - a primary assemblage of responders.
