The P. T. Barnum

What are those men on the lift doing to the old ferry?

Oh, they're painting her. That'll take a while even with rollers!

That is one huge ferry - easily a couple of times bigger than the ones that carry traffic on the 15 minute run between Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula.

This one must have to go out in the open ocean ....

Cleaning it?
Does that one carry cars?

Yes, Kristen, it holds many cars, maybe a hundred. I had to meet someone there a couple of weeks ago and it took about 10 minutes for all the cars to unload.
Not the ocean, Biddie, just Long Island Sound. The trip to CT takes about 90 minutes. There are 3 ferries of this size.

It's like the Block Island Ferry and the one to the Vineyard. Oh I love going on the ferry to Block Island, we took the motorcycle there one year and rode around and to the Vineyard, my boss has a house there and let us stay for the weekend.
Is yoru ferry the one to Bridgeport?

Yes, it's Port Jefferson to Bridgeport. There's a smaller ferry out at the tip of LI at Orient Point. That one goes to New London.

I love the Vineyard. I lived in Edgartown for about three months back in the 60s. It wasn't as built up then. I rode my bike all over the little island of Chappaquiddick. That was before the Ted Kennedy incident that made it famous. I rented a ouse for 40 dollars a month.

"house", that is.

No way! $40 a month at the Vineyard!! Sheesh its probably $4000 a month now
My boss ' house is in Edgartown! Near the airport right?

The rent was low because my friends were happy to have someone living in the house in the cold months and running the furnace and using the plumbing. I paid for fuel oil and electricity. It was an interesting experience. The house was in the nice old part near Water St.
