St. Cuthbert's Episcopal Church is on Magnolia Place in Selden, which is south of South Setauket. It is on a street that is one of the poorest in the area, with a feeling of Tobacco Road, just one block from a busy highway, Middle Country Road (Route 25). The traditional Blessing of the Animals has been given a realistic updating. The sign announces a Blessing of the Cars. Makes sense to me. First things first.

(( grin )) hmmm - blessing the cars, eh? Interesting social/cultural possibility.
You know, the scale of the church is obviously quite different but it made me think of the original little Union Village Methodist Church that we attended so many years ago. I wonder if it is still standing -or- has been sold to someone that made a home out of it .....
Biddie, I'll bet they were both built around the same time, early nineteenth cen.
Union Village Methodist Church is very much alive and well (Google it). They don't use the old building for a sanctuary any more. They built a new one in the 50s and it's across the street in Berkeley Heights not far from the old one.
1955--a new education bldg was built, and 1961--the new church. (Website says)
I did do both an internet search and pulled up Google Earth immediately after I made the first comment. Yes, the church is still very much a viable entity!
On Google Earth, even with all the problems of trying to access anything with the program on my dialup, I could see your house, my house, the Belin's house, all the "new" buildings and huge parking lot for the UVMC but I couldn't pick out the original church from the trees and all the recent construction in the area. So I couldn't tell if it is still standing or not.
P.S. I was still in the area until 1968, so I knew about both the new education building and the new church.
The church was originally the first sanctuary of St Margaret Catholic church. I went to the Bishop and told him we were outgrowing the Centerreach VFW AND NEEDED a new church worship place and alas the Bishop agreed to buy the church and rectory and Michael weber was assigned as our new vicar.
